History

In Budapest since 1981
The history of our hotel building goes back to 1981, when we first opened for business, initially as Forum Hotel. We operate as InterContinental Budapest since 1997, when we joined the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts chain, and from that point on, guests were able to enjoy the high-quality services and countless benefits they got accustomed to with our brand worldwide.

The building was planned by the Ybl-laureate József Finta which brought him his first professional recognition. He is the architect behind the old-fashioned exterior of the Viennese Coffeehouse which operated with great success in the hotel’s building until its closure in 2000. In its place, as a result of a major investment, the opulent Club InterContinental Lounge opened – known for offering exclusive services that are tailored to guests’ individual needs – and the excellent presidential suite on the 9th floor.

Apart from the representatives of some of the world’s largest companies, several politicians, musicians, actors, athletes and all kinds of prominent figures have chosen our hotel; the list of our former guests include George Bush, Zsa Zsa Gábor, the Dalai Lama, Colin Powell, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Michael Schumacher.

Look for us anywhere you travel in the world! Nearly 200 members of the InterContinental Hotel & Resorts are happy to accommodate you any time, with more than 60,000 guest rooms in numerous countries of the world. The number of branches is constantly growing: at this moment 50-60 new hotels are under construction to make sure guests can find the brand that they love during their travels.

InterContinental Budapest was awarded the prestigious title of Leading Business Hotel of Hungary for the third time on the World Travel Awards in 2018.
