our history

Since 1981 in Budapest

The history of our hotel dates back to 1981, when it opened its doors to the travelling public as the Forum Hotel. Since 1996, we have been part of the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts hotel chain, and we welcome our guests as InterContinental Budapest, offering them the brand's high quality services and many other benefits during their stay.

The building was designed by the Ybl Prize-winning architect József Finta, whose first major professional success came with this project. He also designed the nostalgic Viennese Café, which operated successfully within the walls of the building until the 2000s. A major investment in the café has resulted in the creation of the Club InterContinental Lounge, also known as the venue for personalised services, and our magnificent Presidential Suite on the 9th floor. Our guests have included some of the world's biggest companies, as well as politicians, musicians, actors, sportsmen and celebrities such as George Bush, Gábor Zsazsa, the Dalai Lama, Colin Powell, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Schumacher.

Find us wherever you are in the world! InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has nearly 200 hotels with more than 60,000 guest rooms in countries around the world. And this number is growing: 50 to 60 hotels are currently under construction to serve our guests in as many places as possible.
